I'm really interested in making my own clothes for my Sims, but I just cannot seem to figure it out. I've followed one or two tutorials from MTS2, but my finished product just looks...well, terrible! I just don't understand how to get a shirt, let's say something from GoJane.com, can be transformed to fit onto a mesh/alpha. If I shrink the image, it gets distorted and looks nowhere near like some clothing floating about for the Sims 2. So basically I'm asking for tips on creating clothing that works and looks good for my Sims. I have Photoshop 6, if that matters. Thanks in advance if anyone offers help!

Firstly GoJane isn't the best site to skin from. There images are really small and lack the quality you need to skin from. Even if you do a wonderful job on it, you may end up with a bad quality texture/skin in the end. My advice would be to find a simple dress mesh - maxis, 2-f0r-u, simchic OR DES hehe. Use the same alpha or edit it a little and concentrate on putting a nice texture on it and exploring how the whole texturing thing works. You could find a dress you want to make, or just use a flat texture that you like and discover the 'burn & dodge' tool to give creases and definition! Its a wondrous tool! Also, get to know photoshop, if you don't already, it is your friend! lol Make use of all the layer function. i would also advice to do things in sections. for example if you were to make a dress that had a band around the under chest bit, then cut the image up to fit the top over the chest without the flowy part of the skirt. then add the rest in a layer underneath. I hope that makes sense and that i haven't confused you. But thats a piece of info i wished some one had advised me with. Some good skinning sites... (I havnt looked at these, I just researched what other people use to skin from) www.forever21.com www.rampage.com www.hotkiss.com www.ae.com www.abercrombie.com www.windsorstore.com Some good tuts... Photo-skinning: www.simchic.com/tutorials/photoskinning/basic_photoskinning.html Bump Mapping: www.simchic.com/tutorials/bumpmapping/bumpmapping-tutorial.htmlI hope this info is useful to you! x

Wow, had to give you good karma for that one gem! VERY good info to start off with! I have some more to add, but I want to add some pics since I'm not the best at explaining things well when it comes to photoshop. lol But, I have to agree with Gem, she said a lot of helpful things. Maybe post some of your work? We can help you get better that way as well?

Wow! Thanks, Gem! Thank you SO much! I will have to bookmark this thread especially just for the little helpful tips you've given me. I'll definately be checking out some of those sites, if not to look for skinning ideas, but to shop as well! I really like the Forever 21 store in our mall, it just stinks that well...I'm a little plumper than the sizes they offer. And I'm with Gurl, here's a touch o' karma going your way!
